February 1, 2018 – Los Angeles – The United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) is excited to announce Samba FC San Antonio as a new member starting with the 2018 Spring Season.

Based in San Antonio (Tex.), Samba FC begins UPSL play in the Texas Conference and will host its home games at newly-refurbished 5,000-seat Wheatley Heights Sports Complex (200 Noblewood Dr., San Antonio, TX 78220), a sterling multi-use facility in compliance with UPSL’s Minimum Standards.

United Premier Soccer League Commissioner Yan Skwara said, “The Texas Conference has been impressive with its rate of growth of new teams, and we welcome Samba FC San Antonio to the UPSL. Owner John Rexroat has had a storied professional soccer career, and no doubt has had many experiences that he will share with his younger generation of players. We wish John and Samba FC San Antonio the best of luck as they prepare for kick off of the Spring 2018 Season.”

Samba FC San Antonio is operated by John Rexroat, a former professional soccer player.

Rexroat, 52, was born in Bolivia but was a three-year varsity player and graduated from Los Angeles University High School before moving on to a career that included a seven-season stint as a goalkeeper for Cruz Azul in Mexico’s professional second division.

Samba FC San Antonio Owner and General Manager John Rexroat said, “We’re really happy to be part of UPSL. Even though I’ve been in contact with UPSL Commissioner Yan Skwara for years, we’ve been waiting to make this move and this is a long time coming. The league has been around nearly a decade and it’s well established. They treat their member teams exceptionally well. We’re proud to be one the first teams in the inaugural season of the UPSL Texas Conference.”

Rexroat holds several USSF coaching licenses and has coached amateur players who have moved on to collegiate and professional careers. Rexroat’s son, Jonathan, currently is a professional player in Mexico’s professional second division.

“We’re happy to develop players at the professional level and give them that opportunity and create a pathway for young, local talented players. We have connections in Europe and connections in Mexico,” Rexroat said. “The reason I started Samba FC San Antonio is provide a professional pathway to the young and talented players that are here locally.”

The team soon will announce its upcoming game schedule.
