United Premier Soccer League Welcomes Jupiter United SC as Florida Expansion Club

Founded in 1967, South Florida-Based Pro Development Club Joins UPSL

June 1, 2018 – Los Angeles – The United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) is pleased to welcome Jupiter United Soccer Club as a league member this season.

Based in Jupiter (Fla.), Jupiter United SC play in the UPSL Southeast Conference Florida South Division and hosts its UPSL home games at Orange Bowl Field at Ives Estates Park (20901 NE 16th Ave., Miami, FL 33179) in compliance with UPSL's Minimum Standards.

United Premier Soccer League Commissioner Yan Skwara said, "Jupiter United SC has been a top notch program in South Florida for a long time, and now the club has entered into the UPSL and continues to show its immense quality on the Pro Development level. We're proud to have Jupiter United SC as a member of the UPSL, and we wish Coach Barry Lagos and the team every success going forward."

Owned by the City of Jupiter (Fla.), Jupiter United Soccer Club is a leading non-profit in Palm Beach County (Fla.) offering year-round competitive and recreational programs for boys and girls.

Lagos is the team's Owner and Head Coach. A long-time coach with Jupiter United SC, Lagos previously managed the club's APSL entrant. Thadeu Goncalvez will serve as Team Trainer.

Jupiter United SC Owner Barry Lagos said, "The main reason Jupiter United has decided to participate with the UPSL is that the caliber of teams playing are by far more competitive. The outstanding officiating and the atmosphere definitely are on a professional level (and) everyone within the UPSL has given us a good welcome home. After playing in other leagues it was obvious the UPSL was the way to go."

Among the key players helping Jupiter United SC to its 4-0-0 start to the UPSL's 2018 Spring Season has been Dutch defensive midfielder Edson Braafheild, who played for German giants Bayern Munich from 2009-'11, and for The Netherlands at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Also featuring on the team are recent local high school stars Auner Escobar are Paul Ligenchy. Both Palm Beach County (Fla.) residents, Escobar ('16) and Ligenchy ('17) were respective finalists for Florida High School Player of the Year.

Jupiter United SC plays Hurricane FC on Friday, June 1 at 8 p.m. ET at Orange Bowl Field at Ives Estates Park.

United Premier Soccer League

The UPSL was formed in 2011 and currently includes more than 170 teams in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Virginia and Wisconsin. UPSL is the fastest growing Pro Development League in the USA, with 200-plus teams targeted for 2018 Spring Season. Each UPSL team is individually owned and operated, and is responsible for maintaining either UPSL Pro Premier Division or Championship Division minimum standards.

UPSL teams are all eligible to participate in the U.S. Open Cup Qualifying Rounds through the leagues affiliation with the U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) and the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA).
