June 4, 2018 – Los Angeles – The United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) is excited to announce Armadillos Football Club as a new league member starting with the 2018 Fall Season.

Based in Houston (Tex.), Armadillos FC will begin UPSL play in the Central Conference South Division, and will host its UPSL home game at Houston Sports Park (12131 Kirby Dr., Houston, TX 77045), in compliance with UPSL Minimum Standards.

United Premier Soccer League Commissioner Yan Skwara said, "There is a true wealth of soccer in Texas, and we're pleased to welcome Armadillos FC to the UPSL's Central Conference. The Texas soccer community has long been a rich resource for the game in the this country, and we're pleased to see so many clubs adopting Pro Development structures and embracing the UPSL's Pro/Rel Model. Armadillos FC Owner Alberto Escobar is ready to take his club to the next level. We wish Armadillos FC the best of success."

Alberto Escobar is the Owner of Armadillos Football Club, an non-profit youth club and academy based in Houston (Tex.). Founded in 2000, Armadillos FC travel and academy teams more than 200 local players.

Escobar, 47, is a native of Mexico and played at UNAM before training with Puebla's senior team and trialing at a number of clubs. He decided upon a different path, becoming an engineer and a U.S. citizen.

Armadillos Football Club Owner Alberto Escobar said, "We are an organization that helps the low-income kids with ability in soccer, and we use soccer as a motive to get the kids to stay active in schools and with their educations. With us if your grades go up, you move up on the team. If your grades do down, you go down on the team. We're bridging the gap between soccer and education, and now we have players who continue to play at a high level, a real professional-style team that we've put through and that's why we're joining the UPSL. This team is ready to participate at a high level."

Retired NASA engineer Alex Escobar is the CEO of Armadillos FC.

"He brings intelligence to our operation and a level of diligence and discipline that is important," Alberto Escobar said. "He's the project manager for us."

Armadillos FC will host tryouts at Armadillos FC Sports Complex (5910 Market St., Houston TX 77020 - behind McReynolds Middle School) from 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. CT on Saturday and Sunday, June 23-24.
