June 27, 2018 – Los Angeles – The United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) is excited to announce Cal Football Club as a new member starting with the 2018 Fall Season.

Based in Thousand Oaks (Calif.), Cal FC begins UPSL play in the Western Conference, and will host its home matches at Agoura High School (28545 W. Driver Ave., Agoura Hills, CA 91301) in compliance with UPSL's Minimum Standards.

United Premier Soccer League Commissioner Yan Skwara said, "The UPSL has become home to many of the U.S.'s historic club, and we're pleased to welcome Cal FC to the Western Conference. Owner Michael Friedman's success in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup has become the stuff of legend, and he's ready to put Cal FC on a trajectory to surpass their already immense success with Keith Costigan as the club's Head Coach. Today is a good day for American Soccer, and we wish Cal FC every success."

Cal FC is owned and operated by Michael Friedman, a long-time youth soccer coach and local businessman in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. Friedman, 50, is a successful mortgage banker and entrepreneur with a passion for the game.

Cal FC Owner Michael Friedman said, "We've been redeveloping our program in recent years and Cal FC is ready to re-emerge as a member of the UPSL. The UPSL has created a terrific Pro Development platform that features a successful Pro/Rel Model in line with the merit-based systems elsewhere around the world. We're happy to be a part of the UPSL and we can't wait to get started."

Cal FC gained notoriety with its run to the fourth round of the 2012 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup tournament, defeating Portland Timbers (MLS) along the way. Cal FC failed to qualify for the '13 U.S. Open Cup but made three consecutive appearances from 2014-'16.

Keith Costigan is Head Coach of Cal FC. Costigan, a native of Ireland, played two years with Portland Timbers (USL) before joining FOX as a soccer commenter and beginning a career in media that continues to present day.

The club soon will announce upcoming tryouts and its game schedule.
